In everyday play

The wilderness is more than the distance between places. Being prepared gives you time to pay attention to it.

Prepare for the whole journey

Think about what you need for the way out and the way back. Food, water and suitable equipment are ordinary concerns worth taking seriously. Leave room for what you hope to bring home.

Read your surroundings

Weather, light and the ground around you shape how a journey feels. Look ahead and pay attention when conditions change. A short route on a clear day may feel very different in poor weather.

Know when to return

Turning back can be a good decision. A useful journey need not be a long one, and bringing yourself and your work home is part of the adventure.
