Architect’s view

The raised view over a surveyed plot where its keeper draws a building piece by piece, choosing each piece and its material.

In everyday play

A home is more than somewhere to leave your belongings. It gives journeys a destination and makes a stretch of the world familiar.

Ground of your own

Land cannot be claimed on Brackenholm, only beyond the Veilgate. Raise a claim and the land around it is yours, with your own say in who may furnish it, survey it or take from it.

Building a house

Survey a plot with pegs and twine, then draw the building in the architect’s view. Every piece is a real block, a floor, a wall, an arch, a stair or a roof, and you choose its material. Bring the materials to the site chest and the pieces rise one by one. Nothing may float: every piece has to rest on the ground or on something that holds it. Changing a finished house later is a renovation, worked the same way.

Build toward a life

Think about the work you enjoy and the journeys you want to make. A useful home supports that life. It is something to work toward over time, rather than a reason to stop exploring.

Consider the neighbourhood

The ground around a home is shared with other lives. Paths, nearby work and the people who pass through can all matter. What you build becomes part of someone else’s journey too.

Let a place become familiar

Return often enough to notice change. Help a neighbour, improve what you use and make room for the work that matters to you. A place becomes a home through what happens there.
